Jesus asked, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.
The Son of the Living God”
In his classic book Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis says:
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say.
A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic … or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice.
Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God.”
We all Choose How to Respond To Jesus’ Claims
What were these claims?
Jesus said He was the Son of God. He said He was the only way to the Father. He said that He came to the world not to condemn us, but to save us.
The Bible tells us that Jesus died on a cross to pay the penalty for the sins of the world and then rose from the dead on the third day! If anyone believes in Him and turns to Him for forgiveness, they will receive a clean heart and a brand-new life. The Holy Spirit will come and live inside of them, and help them to do what pleases God. They can become free from past hurts and destructive ways of living. They can begin to live a life of power, joy and satisfaction. And they will have assurance that one day when they die they will go to Heaven to live with God for eternity.
